Streaming
Here’s to the outsiders. The artists, the skaters, the misfits, the streamers.
Streaming happens a lot on Twitch, YouTube, Facebook/Instagram... going live on TikTok...
To stream live via your phone but using a high-quality audio source, follow these steps: 1. Use a Quality Microphone: • Invest in a high-quality external microphone, such as a USB or XLR mic, depending on your setup. A lavalier mic or a shotgun mic can also be good choices if you want to capture more directional audio. 2. Use an Audio Interface or Mixer: • To connect professional microphones (especially XLR mics) to your smartphone, you’ll need an audio interface or a mixer. Devices like the Focusrite Scarlett series or iRig Stream are popular options. These interfaces convert the analog signal from your microphone into a digital signal that your phone can process. 3. Connect Your Audio Source to Your Phone: • Connect the audio interface or mixer to your smartphone using a compatible adapter (like a USB-C or Lightning adapter, depending on your phone). Ensure your audio interface is correctly configured to route the audio from the mic to your phone. 4. Use a Streaming App: • Open the Instagram app and start a live stream as usual. Ensure the audio source from your interface is selected as the input (most interfaces will automatically set this up once connected). 5. Monitor Audio Levels: • Use the audio interface or mixer to monitor and adjust the audio levels. Make sure the audio is not peaking or distorting. If your interface has a headphone output, use it to monitor the sound in real-time. 6. Test Before Going Live: • Do a test run to ensure everything works smoothly. Check the audio quality by recording a short live video and reviewing it to see if adjustments are needed. 7. Optimize Your Environment: • Ensure you’re streaming from a quiet environment with minimal background noise. Consider using soundproofing techniques or recording in a space with good acoustics to further enhance audio quality. This setup will help you deliver high-quality audio during your Instagram Live sessions, enhancing the overall experience for your audience.
